Tales from the Canal

Today we make our way to Salford to join our cruise along the 35 mile length of the Manchester Ship Canal. With a revealing commentary of the history of one of the most important waterways in Britain, the cruise and surrounding scenery unravel an era of industrial power that shaped the North West forever. At journey’s end we disembark in the great maritime city of Liverpool.

Markets & Mills

This morning we make our way to Bury Market - the largest in England and full of bargains galore! We then board the East Lancashire Steam Railway to Rawtenstall, hugging the Irwell Valley. We continue through Rossendale, passing through Lancashire’s once prosperous mill towns to reach Oswaldtwistle Mills. Lancashire’s premier mill attraction houses shops and cafés in what was one of the regions leading cotton mills.
