Palace of the Peaks

Driving deep into the Peak District we make our way to the wonderful surrounds of Chatsworth House and its equally delightful gardens. The interior rooms are a treasure trove of grandeur and the gardens feature the famous cascade, falling 200 yards down the hillside, along with sculptures, lakes and an amazing maze!

Spas & Dovedale

This morning we make our way to the spa town of Buxton, located 1,000 feet up and often referred to as the ‘gateway’ to the Peak District National Park. Here there is time to explore this lovely market town, with its 18th century crescents and Regency terraces. Later we drive through the gentle vales of Dovedale to reach the picturesque stone built village of Hartington.

Peaks & Puddings

Today we discover the High Peak with a memorable journey over the spectacular Snake Pass which rises 1,680 feet between Kinder Scout and Bleaklow Hill. Passing Ladybower Reservoir - the practice area for the 'Dambuster' raids of WW11 - we reach the popular tourist centre of Castleton, surrounded by ‘showcaves’ where the famous Blue John Stone is mined. We return via the pretty town of Bakewell, famous for its puddings which are sold in the local bakeries.
