Ironbridge Gorge and the Severn Valley Railway

Britannia Royal Court Hotel

HIGHLIGHTS:  Stratford-upon-Avon, The beautiful Severn Valley, Ironbridge Gorge & Blists Hill Victorian Town, Bridgnorth, Severn Valley Railway, Stourport-on-Severn

Turn back the years to a time when Britain ruled not only the waves, but heavy industry and engineering ingenuity as well. We visit Ironbridge Gorge - the
‘birthplace’ of industry and home to the world’s first-ever iron bridge - and the adjoining Blists Hill Victorian Town for a taste of everyday life in Victorian times. We also include a journey through the Severn Valley by rail and a visit to Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon

*Please note that the Severn Valley Rilway is not running on the 22/04/2024 tour date. Instead, we will be replacing this with the Gloucestershire & Warwick Railway.

Excursions

Industrial Revolutions
We head to Ironbridge, birthplace of the Industrial Revolution and site of the world’s first iron bridge, built across the River Severn between 1711-81. We explore the valley, get a chance to cross the famous bridge, and visit the fascinating museum of Blists Hill Victorian Town (admission included) for a wonderful insight into how our Victorian ancestors lived and worked.

Severn Delights
Today we head into the Severn Valley, where we visit the charming town of Bridgnorth, effectively two towns, situated one above the other and connected by the country’s oldest and steepest cliff railway. From here we take a journey on the Severn Valley Railway through the beautiful Severn scenery to Kidderminster before completing our day in Stourport-on-Severn.

Shakespeare’s Stratford
To Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace of England’s finest playwright, William Shakespeare, where his birthplace and many associations are found around every corner. Alternatively take a gentle riverside walk or perhaps a cruise on the River Avon, or simply enjoy the ancient streets of the town centre.
